Ruling Assistant
Let us introduce you to our Ruling Assistant, a dedicated companion for working on legal case analysis at Tilburg University and developed for and together with Tilburg Law School. The Ruling Assistant works with students to read an arrest (a type of legal case) step by step, guiding them through the judgment without providing direct answers. This approach encourages students to learn how to read and understand judgments on their own.

How does it work?
The Ruling Assistant uses a structured 10-step analysis process, from identifying the parties involved to extracting key legal principles. At each step, students decide how much support they want. Some may only need confirmation they are on the right track, while others may ask for help with legal terms or locating information in the case document. The Ruling Assistant adapts to each student's learning style.
Flexible Support Options
- Moving forward once the student feels confident in their understanding
- Receiving an explanation of a legal term
- Getting a tip on how to approach the analytical step
- Finding relevant information within a case document
What makes the Ruling Assistant unique
The Ruling Assistant does not provide ready-made answers. Instead, it acts as a personal guide through the process of reading a ruling. Students remain in control of the chatbot at every stage, ensuring a personalized learning experience. This way, they not only analyze individual cases but also develop the skills to approach any legal case independently.
